Thoughts

We have known John and Lynn for over 20 years - since we started Line Dancing. Right from the start we all enjoyed learning the dances, often a new one each week, meeting with other similarly enthusiastic people and making many firm friendships. The teaching lessons led to regular social dancing evenings and then weekends away with John, Lynn and many other dancers at various venues around the Country. A number of these weekends were spent at Potters and Winterton, both in Norfolk, where many daytime hours were spent visiting numerous zoos, one of Lynn's favourite pastimes. A feature of our Winterton weekends also being a BBQ amongst the sand dunes. Meals out were also another Lynn favourite, especially if the desserts available were particularly sweet and "gooy". Evening social dancing often had a theme with Lynn joining in the spirit of things by dressing up appropriately. Over a period of years these weekend events became extended with additional days away just with John and Lynn and our other two close friends, leaving us with fond memories. We also enjoyed other trips taking Lynn to meet up with John during his mammoth walk round Britain, one being in the Midlands (getting as far away from the coast as possible!) which obviously had to include a day trip round the local Zoo! Of recent times we have continued to enjoy Lynn's good company and admired her determination to keep dancing, not letting her condition hold her back any more than necessary. Our last "weekend away" being as recent as New Year 2020 which we spent in Northampton. Unfortunately we have not been able to see Lynn so much in the last few months due to the Covid restrictions. We will miss her lovely smile which was still evident when we last saw her on her Birthday in March. Brian and Sheila Rowe

Clanchy memories of Lynn Rayment. 1) We, (Peter & Helen Clanchy) have known Lynn for 42 years. Pete and John worked together at the London Borough of Islington Finance Department. Within a few months we had met up as a foursome, no doubt in a pub somewhere or maybe one of the famous Rayment BBQs! John and Lynn came to our wedding in 1979, where they met lots of Social Workers and Accountants (yes, an interesting mix!). 2) John introduced us to skiing and we have lots of great memories of holidays spent at altitude. I (Helen) will always remember Lynn skiing elegantly ahead of me, the “boys” having bombed off down hill while I snowploughed the full piste! 3) Lynn, Claire and I (Helen) had a fantastic day trip to Monaco, leaving the others skiing. We descended the mountain by train and arrived to find: oranges, very posh people in fashionable clothes, more dog poo on the pavements than we had ever seen before and Prince Rainier. We accidentally “stalked” the Prince around town as he went in and out of various functions. I guess we looked like star struck ski bums! 4) Lynn was a definite shopaholic (especially for cotton tops and beach clothes). In recent times we have lurked outside shops and market stalls in Mahon, Ciutadella etc waiting for her to conclude that she needed both items! 5) Again, in recent times we were impressed by Lynn’s ability to step into her swimming costume/shorts while standing (an action we find quite difficult at the best of times). Lynn loved the sun and was delighted when she took the plunge into the swimming pool or sea. 6) In May 2019 we, (Pete, Helen & Lynn) enjoyed chasing John round the final stages of the Cami De Cavills circular walk in Menorca. We stopped at various cafes and beach huts and Lynn never refused an ice cream! At the end John looked shattered and Lynn sublime! There is a photo to prove it! 7) Lynn had a very determined streak, which wasn’t dimmed by her illness. In an old quarry in Menorca she had told us that she didn’t really want to visit it. She maintained her complaints about the trip while walking up and down steep slopes and through narrow paths (which we were struggling with!) Eventually she smiled and said that it was pretty good sitting in the shade of a little medieval garden watching the tortoises. At no time did she give up or ask to go home. 8) Lynn was always “there” for us; interested in our lives, the children and everything that was going on. She and John had a very special relationship, she always provided a calm, loving response to his (sometimes) outlandish ideas! 9) We have lost a great friend and hope that this small selection of memories provides some comfort for John. "During a few hours away from the walk around the coast of Menorca last year, I went with Lynn to Maribel’s at Calablanca, to look for a gift or two take home. We came across a bottle opener with an apparently unnecessarily long and thick wooden handle. Lynn picked it up to look at it in more detail and then it slowly dawned on us that the handle had been sculpted into the shape of a Phallus. Lynn immediately put it down. How we giggled!"
